47 acres of land owned by the Volusia County school district are being put up for sale. The school district is listing a parcel of land purchased in 2024 and located in DeBary. The listed address of the parcel of land is 25 Buckley Drive in DeBary. Its location is on the east side of Charles R. Beall Blvd, just north of I-4. It’s also just a few blocks south of the DeBary Sunrail station on Fort Florida Road. The school district listed the property after it appeared on their surplus list earlier this month, as reported by the Daytona Beach News-Journal. At exactly 47.43 acres, it’s by far the largest property Volusia County Schools has listed for sale. The next largest, located in Edgewater, is 28.93 acres. Two others each at 2.96 acres are located in South Daytona and Pierson, respectively. When the school district first purchased the property back in 2024, the plans for its future looked very different. At a meeting in April of that year, the School Board approved a purchase of $4.73 million with the intention of constructing a new elementary school on those grounds. Reports from around the time of the sale indicate that the School Board had planned to rebuild Enterprise Elementary School, currently located in the unincorporated community of Enterprise in southwest Volusia County. District personnel eventually concluded it was in the best interest of the project to go in a different direction. It’s currently unclear when a new Enterprise Elementary School could be constructed. Students would potentially be put at risk having to cross a four-lane road to get to school, and there could’ve been expensive work required to raise the level of the ground to mitigate flooding concerns.
