One man was killed in a collision with a semi-truck on Thursday in DeLand, law enforcement announced after the incident. The DeLand Police Department is investigating the fatal crash. The incident occurred at around 6:00 am on Thursday, December 26th. According to the DPD, the semi-truck was headed to the loading dock at the Winn-Dixie groecery store at 1050 West New York Ave. It was driving north on South Spring Garden Ave approaching West Howry Ave in order to, from what the details suggest, drop off a shipment of merchandise. As it traveled, the DeLand Police Department says the semi-truck turned into the southwest entrance of the loading area where it would head east towrad the docks. While turning, the truck then was said to have hit an adult male pedestrian, administering fatal injuries. Emergency response personnel arrived at the Winn-Dixie soon thereafter and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. As of Friday, the DeLand Police Department has not released the identity of the victim or the driver, and was in the process of notifying the victim’s next-of-kin as of Thursday afternoon. The cause and nature of the tragic collision are still under investigation, and it’s not yet clear whether criminal charges may arise from the incident.
