A 16-year-old from Deltona was arrested on Thursday for allegedly firing a gun during a fight and pistol-whipping a 14-year-old. Marcel Serrano is in custody for his role in the stunning and violent confrontation. According to a release from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, there was a fight involving several minors around the area of Normandy Blvd and Merrimac St in Deltona. Witnesses reportedly heard a gunshot fired, and then reported someone running through residential yards in the immediate aftermath. Deputies responded and found a black ski mask and hoodie, and a Coach bag with a 9mm handgun, the report states. Upon investigating, they identified Serrano as the primary suspect, and deduced that he’d pistol-whipped a teen two years younger than him during the fight. They also found the shell casing that’d been ejected when Serrano reportedly fired the shot. Marcel Serrano has been charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence for his role in the proceedings. His father, 36-year-old Marvin Serrano, is said to have picked Marcel up in his vehicle after the incident and taken him home. He was arrested for violation of an active injunction, which had ordered him to have no unsupervised contact with his son. Marvin Serrano’s booking history in Volusia County is extensive dating back to 2009, and includes such charges as domestic battery by strangulation, cocaine and marijuana possession, violation of probation, and driving with a suspended license. As of Friday afternoon he’s still being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $2,500 bond. Further charges are possible, pending further investigation by the VSO.
