Daytona Beach resident Trevin Smith has been arrested for manslaughter in connection to the overdose death of an Ormond Beach woman last year. Smith was already arrested once in connection to this death, but has now been taken back into custody as more evidence has been discovered. Smith, 33, was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on Tuesday with no bond. In addition to manslaughter, he’s been charged with nonviolently resisting an officer, possession with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school, contributing to the delinquency of a child, driving with a suspended license, and unlawful usage of a two-way communications device. According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Smith is said to have sold fentanyl to a 35-year-old woman in Ormond Beach in April 2025. The next day detectives arranged a fake sale with Smith posing as the victim, and arrested him at a 7-Eleven convenience store after he arrived on-scene. Messages were found on the victim’s phone which reportedly implicated Smith as the person who’d sold her drugs prior to her fatal overdose. He was initially only charged with possession, child neglect, obstruction of an officer without violence, driving with a suspended license, and unlawful usage of a two-way communication device. With his new manslaughter charge, Smith is now directly legally implicated in the death of the victim. Prior to his arrest in April 2025, Smith has had several past bookings at the Volusia County Branch Jail. Charges include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, grand theft, fleeing and eluding, and reckless driving among others. Pending further charges, Smith could eventually face a sentence of up to life in prison upon conviction if he’s found to have sold narcotics that led to a death.
