ORMOND BEACH, Fla – Volusia County Beach Safety had a tragedy on their hands Monday afternoon, as a woman is said to have drowned in the ocean in Ormond Beach. The woman was noticed floating face-up and unresponsive by beachgoers. No one has yet come forward claiming to have witnessed the drowning itself, or how the woman got into a situation that led to it happening. It’s still unclear exactly what happened. After being noticed, bystanders pulled the woman to shore and attempted to administer CPR. They were unsuccessful in resuscitating her, as were the first responders who arrived soon therafter. She was determined to be dead. Ocean safety includes knowing one’s limits when swimming, and understanding the procedure to escape rough surf and rip currents, both of which are common at Florida’s beaches along the Atlantic coast. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
