Daytona Beach, FL – You might have ridden a hopcycle or a trolley pub before, but have you ever set sail on a paddle pub? If you don’t know what they are, don’t worry. You’ll have a chance to experience them firsthand beginning on Friday (Dec. 17) when the first paddle pub in Daytona Beach makes its debut. The debut is part of Paddle Pub Daytona Beach’s grand opening at the Coquina Marina, where the pubs will also set sail on two hour tours. The boats work essentially like a trolley pub, where patrons seated around a bar use foot pedals to move their rolling bar as an employee drives. While pedaling supplies most of the power to move the pub, it also has a small motor so they can move on their own; especially if the patrons get tired or need a break. The paddle pub will follow the same principle, instead it uses a 35 foot pontoon boat-based platform. There will be a bar in the middle surrounded by 12 pedaling stations, where there will also be a cooler for each guest to store their drinks—as the boat will be bring-your-own-beverage (BYOB). The boats will also have an onboard restroom and a motor for when patrons stop pedaling. And while there are only 12 stations, the boat can accommodate up to 20 passengers. Daytona’s paddle pub had just recently passed inspection by the US Coast Guard and is now approved for operations. “(Trolley pubs) are actually how our company got started,” said Remy Resheske, operations manager for Daytona Beach. “It was until recently that we started to build paddle pub boats.” Resheske told News Daytona Beach that they have spent over a year planning their launch in Daytona Beach. At some point, paddle pub trips will also include a “swim stop,” where riders can take a dip in the Intracoastal Waterway and enjoy the water. It’s not known exactly when that will be implemented.
