Daytona Beach, FL – A band is apologizing after their singer publicly urinated on a willing fan during Daytona Beach’s Welcome to Rockville Festival. It was on the first day of the festival, Thursday (Nov. 11), that New York-based band Brass Against—known for their brass-centric covers of hard rock and metal songs, primarily those by Rage Against The Machine—was set to take the stage. In the middle of their cover of Rage Against the Machine’s song “Wake Up,” lead singer Sophia Urista stated that she had to go to the bathroom. After making some additional comments, Urista invited a festival goer onstage and began to urinate on the man. Backlash from the incident quickly ensued, leading to the band posting an apology on their social media accounts. We had a great time last night at Welcome to Rockville. Sophia got carried away. That's not something the rest of us expected, and it's not something you'll see again at our shows. Thanks for bringing it last night, Daytona.— Brass Against (@BrassAgainst) November 13, 2021 “We had a great time in Daytona last night at Welcome to Rockville. Sophia got carried away,” wrote the band the following day. “That’s not something the rest of us expected, and it’s not something you’ll see again at Brass Against shows.” The backlash continued as many outlets and fans questioned why the event had occurred in the first place. One fan tweeted at the band and accused Urista of assaulting the fan. The band responded and said that no assault had occurred in the first place. Another fan said the incident brought up “issues of consent,” to which the band replied that the man consented to going on stage in the first place. According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, a report was filed about the incident. Per Messod Bendayan, the agency’s public information officer, a woman called to report the event because the incident was witnessed by her 16-year-old son. Bendayan stated that officers have tried to contact the reporting party, but have yet to receive any response. It is unknown if any other juveniles had witnessed the incident, as Rockville was billed as an all ages event. It’s also unknown if any other reports have been filed, and if any charges are pending against Urista. Passes to Welcome to Rockville 2022—featuring headlines KISS, Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, and Korn—are on sale now for $10 down. Find out more at WelcomeToRockvilleFestival.com.
