One man was fatally shot in an apparent DeLand trespass incident, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday. Neither the identity of the shooter nor the victim have been released as of Tuesday morning, with an investigation still active and ongoing. The incident reportedly began when law enforcement was called to 127 N. Boulevard Court in DeLand at around 10:47 p.m. Tuesday. The VSO and DeLand Police Department were told by the caller that he had shot the alleged trespasser. When deputies arrived on-scene the caller was at the side of the road with his hands up, the VSO says. The victim was found lying in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds. Responders pronounced him deceased at the scene. Some of the specifics of the shooting are still unclear with the limited information currently available. The shooter was said to live in a camper on-premises. The victim reportedly lived “off and on at the property” at one time but was no longer allowed to be there. On Tuesday, the VSO says the victim was found asleep in a laundry room at the property. An argument ensued, and a call was placed to law enforcement about a trespasser. The conflict apparently continued to escalate, with the shooter saying he warned the victim to stop advancing toward him or he’d be shot. Multiple shots were fired after this.
