The father of a teenager accused of killing two men in DeLand has been arrested, according to an announcement by the DeLand Police Department. 41-year-old Daytron Etkins, a resident of Eustis, is accused of helping 17-year-old Keyan Rundell evade police following last week’s double-homicide. According to Captain Prurince Dice, Etkins was arrested at around 6:49 a.m. in Eustis. The DeLand Police Department received assistance from law enforcement in Lake County to make the arrest. Captain Dice said Etkins has been charged with felony accessory after the fact. “Our investigators developed probable cause to allege that Etkins knowingly assisted his son following the homicides and took actions intended to help him avoid law enforcement,” Dice continued. “Assisting or concealing a person wanted in connection with a homicide is a serious matter that we will not ignore or tolerate.” On July 29, 19-year-old Dustin Rose and 18-year-old Samson Campbell were found shot to death near the Athens Theatre in DeLand. A search warrant was served on August 1, and police found clothing and an e-bike believed to be connected to the murders. Keyan Rundell was arrested on Tuesday in Manatee County before being transferred to DeLand. Daytron Etkins has one prior arrest on record in Lake County. On August 8, 2025, he was charged with domestic battery – second offense. Friday marked his second recorded arrest. Etkins has no arrests on record in Volusia County. As of Friday, the DeLand Police Department’s investigation remains active. It’s unclear whether other suspects exist, or whether additional charges may be added against Etkins or Rundell.
