PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Mayor Don Burnette of Port Orange has been appointed to serve on one of the Florida League of Cities’ Legislative Policy Committees, according to a news release from a city spokesperson Wednesday. Specifically, he will serve on the 2023-24 Transportation and Intergovernmental Relations Committee. Burnette received his appointment from the President of the Florida League of Cities, Cooper City Mayor Greg Ross. “I appreciate the opportunity to service once again as I have in the past,” Burnette said, “and bring back to Port Orange the knowledge that comes along with the ability to collaborate with others around the state and move forward with the issues that will benefit all of our cities.” The City of Port Orange’s statement details how Burnette will assist in developing the League of Cities’ legislative platform, with a focus toward issues in the state legislature which will impact the day-to-day operations of city governments across the state of Florida. First elected to the office of mayor in 2016, Burnette announced earlier this year that he’d be seeking the Chair seat on the Volusia County Council. As of Thursday, Burnette has out-fundraised incumbent Jeff Brower, while falling behind fellow challenger Randy Dye.
