Student-athletes will be able to receive more from their colleges. On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that the NCAA violated antitrust laws by limiting education-related benefits for athletes. Schools will now be able to provide players with unlimited compensation as long as it is connected with their education.
Although this decision was for one type of compensation, the ruling might open the door for college athletes to get paid for their athletic prowess. The lawsuit was a win for both current and former athletes. The complaint was led by former West Virginia University running back Shawne Alston and former California-Berkley center Justine Hartman.
