The coronavirus pandemic initially decimated the wedding industry, but now it’s bouncing back thanks to a new trend: micro-weddings! The Washington Post reports that more and more hotels and other venues are luring in couples with ceremony and reception packages that can accommodate anywhere from two to 40 or so guests. “Inquiries are through the roof. In fact, I don’t think we’re taking any more [weddings] now for 2020,” says Joe Bartolomei, owner and manager of the Farmhouse Inn in Sonoma County, California. “We basically are just doing the same thing we’ve always done.” Couples who budgeted for big weddings are also splurging for extra-long stays at those properties after they tie the knot. Meanwhile, at the Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City, Virginia, Lucy Coleman and Gus Kost had 20 family members for an indoor event that included custom wedding masks. “It’s not what we had envisioned but it turned out for the better, I think,” Coleman says. “If we were going to do it again, I would have the same wedding.”
