Palm Coast, FL – Another year leads to another successful Shop with a Cop event, as the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office says 125 children and their families will now have a holiday to remember. The goal of the program was to help children and families in economic hardships have a bit of extra holiday cheer. The event kicked off when Flagler County deputies and members of the Flagler Beach Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrived at each child’s home to give them a ride to the Chiumento law office building. There, games and activities waited for the kids. From there, the kids were taken to Walmart—via a police escort—where each child was given a $175 gift card to spend on themselves and their family for the holiday season. Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly called the event a great success. “I appreciate everyone that donated and all FCSO employees who volunteered to take part in this amazing event,” Sheriff Staly said. “I’m very proud of our team that not only serves the community every day but also gives back to our community to help build a positive relationship between children and law enforcement.” Staly added that, besides their time, the community also donated almost $16,000 to help support the event; adding that some even reached into their own pockets to help the overages on some childrens’ shopping spree. “Our team truly enjoyed this experience and being able to watch the children get into the holiday spirit,” added Staly. The program is a part of the Flagler Sheriff’s Children’s Charities, a tax-deductible 501(C)(3) charity established in 2020.
