Two men were wounded in a shooting that occurred near the boardwalk in Daytona Beach, according to a report from the Daytona Beach Police Department. Both victims were 19-year-olds, and are expected to recover. According to the DBPD’s report, the two were attending ‘Beach Day’, a social event in Daytona Beach that law enforcement is describing as unsanctioned. Such events are designated by local police forces as being outside the standard large event organization processes. Sometime around 7:35 pm on Saturday, both victims sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to Halifax Medical Center for emergency treatment. The DBPD said they were in stable condition. Multiple witnesses of the incident were interviewed by police after the shooting. It’s currently believed that the two men knew each other beforehand. Little has been released about the nature of the shooting or any potential suspects by the DBPD since Saturday. The Volusia County Council voted this week to visit the topic of reducing crowds at beaches in the county to attempt to curtail violence such as Saturday’s shooting, in order to keep it from having a potentially harmful effect on the local tourism economy.
