One man and two dogs were tragically killed in a structure fire in Pierson this week, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office also confirmed. The incident took place Sunday morning. According to a statement from the VSO, the fire was reported at around 8:30 am on Sunday. It reportedly was happening at 481 N. Shell Harbor Road, just west of Lake Pierson. The structure was ultimately destroyed entirely in the fire. First responders began to work on putting the fire out upon arriving on-scene. Once they were able to get inside, responders found the victim: a 69-year-old male. As of Friday, his identification is still pending. Deputies also discovered two dogs which were deceased at the time they were found. Little is immediately clear about the circumstances behind what deputies described as ‘a large structure fire’. The VSO’s statement says that suspicious circumstances are not believed to have played a role in the blaze. Further investigation into the fire will be conducted by the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson, & Explosives Investigations. Any further information made available will be added to this or subsequent reports. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office says it extends its condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
