One suspect has been arrested in connection to a brawl and shootout that occurred in New Smyrna Beach on Saturday, the city’s police department has announced. The incident was said to be a dispute between rival biker gangs at a RaceTrac gas station on SR-44 amidst the festivities of Bike Week 2025. Two injuries were reported amidst the melee, with both luckily being non-life-threatening according to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department. Most of the dozens of bikers who were shown on video to be at the scene reportedly fled the area before police arrived. One witness video depicts the argument turning violent before a series of gunshots can be heard. Civilians appear to be ducking for cover inside the gas station, with luckily none of them being hit in the crossfire. The shooting was announced on Facebook by the NSBPD at 1:15 pm on Saturday, the day before the end of Bike Week. “This is a complex case involving numerous individuals and groups, many of whom are uncooperative with law enforcement,” the NSBPD wrote. “We assure you that there is extensive work going on behind the scenes to thoroughly investigate and piece together all of the details of this case.” While no deaths were reported from the New Smyrna Beach shootout, loss of life is a sad reality of the ultra-popular annual motorcycle gathering that is Daytona Beach Bike Week. Four fatalities have been reported so far in roadway accidents involving motorcycles. Now that the presence of violent biker gangs is seemingly a reality of the event, conversation has turned to whether Bike Week can be considered safe for either riders or the community at-large.
